The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has urged the Election Commission of India to synchronize the general elections in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to prevent potential double voting. A YSRCP delegation, led by party general secretary Vijay Sai Reddy, met with Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar in Vijayawada to express their concerns regarding the upcoming assembly and general elections.
Vijay Sai Reddy highlighted a critical issue, stating that many individuals who have relocated from Andhra Pradesh to Telangana are registered as voters in both states. To address this potential discrepancy, the YSRCP proposed holding elections on the same day in a single phase for both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Reddy emphasized that separate polling dates could lead to instances of double voting by individuals registered in both states.
Expressing concern over an alleged enrollment drive in Telangana encouraging Andhra settlers to register in Andhra Pradesh, Reddy deemed this practice illegal. He urged that individuals should first remove their names from the Telangana voter list before enrolling in Andhra Pradesh.
In addition, Reddy criticized the Election Commission for extending an invitation to the Jana Sena Party for talks, citing the party’s lack of recognition. He questioned the allocation of the glass tumbler symbol to the Jana Sena Party.
Furthermore, the YSRCP leader accused the Chief Electoral Officer of Andhra Pradesh of accepting purportedly false complaints from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). Reddy requested the Election Commission to instruct against entertaining complaints from the TDP, emphasizing that the claims of bogus voter enrollment made by the TDP were unsubstantiated, as certified by Collectors.
The YSRCP’s plea to synchronize elections aims to ensure fairness and transparency in the electoral process, addressing potential concerns of double voting and emphasizing the need for proper verification procedures.
