The routine operations at the Indore RTO have been halted for about a week due to the shutdown of its portals. This has caused significant inconvenience to applicants and led to a loss of approximately Rs 2 crore to the government from the state’s commercial capital alone. Both the Sarathi portal, crucial for driving license applications, and the Vahan portal, responsible for vehicle registration and permits, have been largely non-functional, severely impacting applicants, especially those for commercial vehicles, and creating a backlog.
Indore RTO Pradeep Kumar Sharma noted that both portals are processing only about 10% of their usual workload, resulting in a standstill of all routine and essential operations, including issuing driving licenses and vehicle registrations. While senior officials are working to resolve the issue, concerns about revenue loss and backlog persist. This disruption may further delay revenue targets for the current fiscal year, with the Indore RTO aiming to generate Rs 931 crore in income.
