A consumer court in Karnataka ruled for a woman who didn’t get her momos order through Zomato last year. The Indian Express reports that the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Dharwad made this decision .
Sheethal, the woman, placed the order on August 31, 2023. She got a delivery confirmation, but the momos never showed up. She reached out to the restaurant and Zomato but got no help. Zomato asked for 72 hours to look into it but never got back. With no other option, Sheethal sent a legal notice to Zomato in September 2023.
In court, Zomato said they did nothing wrong. But the court pointed out that Zomato’s lack of action for months went against their initial request for time to sort out the issue. In May 2024, Zomato gave Sheethal back the original cost of the momos (Rs 133.25).
The court found Zomato’s service lacking and held them responsible for the trouble caused to Sheethal. The court ordered Zomato to pay Sheethal Rs 50,000 for the stress and Rs 10,000 for her legal costs adding up to Rs 60,000.
