Latest Science News: Changes, in the Earth’s rotation are being influenced by climate change as ice melts. The planet is experiencing transformations, with human-induced climate change being a contributing factor. Recent research from ETH Zurich highlights how Earth’s rotation is being impacted.
Recent studies led by Professor Benedikt Soja and published in Nature Geoscience and PNAS reveal that climate change is causing alterations in Earth’s rotation and axis. The melting of ice and the movement of water towards the equator are changing the distribution of mass on the planet ultimately slowing down its rotation. This phenomenon results in days akin, to a figure skater extending their arms during a spin to adjust inertia and decelerate rotation.
