Golfer Aditi Ashok aims for a medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 after finishing fourth in Tokyo. Fellow golfer Diksha Dagar, despite a recent car accident that injured her mother, is determined to succeed.
Aditi, a two-time Olympian, nearly won a medal in Tokyo and seeks redemption. Diksha, making her second Olympic appearance, is ready to compete despite her challenges.
Aditi tees off with Gaby Lopez (Mexico) and Esther Henseleit (Germany) at 9:22 am local time (12:52 pm IST). Diksha plays with Wei-Ling Hsu (Chinese Taipei) and Emma Spitz (Austria) from 10:55 am. The women’s competition runs from Wednesday to Saturday.
Aditi, who won the Hero Women’s Indian Open in 2016, has five wins on the Ladies European Tour and seeks her first LPGA victory. She received widespread praise for her performance in Tokyo, including from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Diksha has competed in both the Deaflympics and the main Olympics. She qualified for Tokyo last minute but secured her place for Paris well in advance. A recent car accident in Paris involved her family, injuring her mother, who is now recovering.
Aditi’s father will caddy for her in Paris, as he did in 2016. Her mother caddied for her in Tokyo. In previous Olympics, Nelly Korda (USA) won gold in Tokyo, and Inbee Park (South Korea) won gold in Rio 2016.
Lydia Ko aims for her third Olympic medal. Thirty-three countries are represented by 60 athletes, with 12 of the top 15 players competing. Notable players include Jin Young Ko, Nelly Korda, and Minjee Lee. Celine Boutier and Perrine Delacour represent France.
Women’s golf returned to the Olympics in 2016, having previously been contested in 1900 and 1904.
