Shivam Dube‘s awesome performance in the last T20I game against Zimbabwe got him the Player of the Match prize. Sanju Samson and Mukesh Kumar helped a lot in India’s big win by 42 runs to win the series 4-1, but Dube shone in batting, bowling, and fielding. On Sunday at the Harare Sports Club, Dube smashed 26 runs off just 12 balls helping India reach a good score of 167/6. Then, he grabbed two important wickets with his medium-pace bowling and made a super direct hit to run out Sikandar Raza, which pretty much ended Zimbabwe’s chances in the match.
“It’s always cool to help out in both areas. Got some wickets pretty stoked about that. In T20s, you might struggle but one good hit can turn things around. The field is huge, we love playing here, the vibe and the crowd are awesome,” Dube said after the game.
Washington Sundar, who plays off-spin and bats too got to play twice in IPL 2024 but was in every match in Zimbabwe. He bowled so well that he won the Player of the Series award.
“It’s nice to end with a win. The second game felt like South Africa, with more bounce and speed. We had plenty of time to learn a lot. We got many lessons, insights, and feel good about the Sri Lanka games coming up. Our team did great,” Sundar said.
Shubman Gill now a winner in his first series as India’s captain, liked how the team bounced back after losing by 13 runs in the first game. “Great series. It was amazing to see how hungry we were after that first loss.
“A lot of players had long flights and weren’t used to the conditions. How we adapted was pretty impressive. I’ve been to Sri Lanka once for the Asia Cup excited to go there and play (later this month),” Gill said.
