The BCCI has chosen to give Rs 1 crore to help treat Anshuman Gaekwad, who used to coach India’s cricket team and is now fighting blood cancer in London. They made this choice after Kapil Dev and Sandip Patil, who used to be captains asked for help.
The BCCI’s top group said, “Mr. Jay Shah has told the BCCI to give Rs 1 crore right away to help Mr. Anshuman Gaekwad, an old cricket player who has cancer.”
Gaekwad, whose dad used to be India’s captain, D.K. Gaekwad, is getting treatment at King’s College Hospital in London. Mr. Shah talked to Gaekwad’s family to check how things are going and to offer help. The BCCI is backing the Gaekwad family during this tough time and will do what it takes to help him get better fast.
The BCCI will keep tabs on how Gaekwad is doing and thinks he’ll bounce back well. Gaekwad, who’s 71 now, played for India in 40 Tests and 15 ODIs from 1975 to 1987.
