Spain’s run to the Euro 2024 final has been awesome, with 13 goals in the tournament, but one from their striker and captain Alvaro Morata. Even though they’ve played well, Morata has gotten a lot of hate because he’s scored four times in his last 30 games for both his club and country.
While Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams on the wings have been killing it, Morata has had a tough time after starting strong against Croatia. His goal in that game made him Spain’s fourth-best international scorer with 36 goals, but he hasn’t scored in five games since then. Even though he works hard and moves around a lot to help his teammates, the fact that he’s not scoring goals is worrying people.
If Spain gets the win in Berlin, Morata can say he helped the team succeed. But if they don’t, people will talk about how he didn’t score. Morata’s not happy and says this is his last time playing for Spain because of all the mean things people say. He told a reporter that nobody in Spain respects him, which made the news people even madder.
Even though lots of folks are mean to him, Morata’s wife and coach Luis de la Fuente have his back. De la Fuente thinks Morata’s a great leader that people don’t appreciate enough. He also believes that if Morata played somewhere else, they’d think he was amazing for all he’s done.
Morata’s played for big teams like Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Juventus, but he’s never stayed put for long. Living in London got to him so he went back to Spain after two years. He says he gets super emotional during games and often feels like crying.
Even with all the bad stuff, Morata’s teammates think he’s a good leader. Dani Olmo, who’s tied for most goals in the tournament, had nice things to say about Morata. He hopes Morata can still end up as the top scorer if he does well in the final game.
After Spain beat France, Morata got hurt during the party. A guard smacked him, but Morata just laughed it off. Now he’s thinking about playing England. He wants to win his first big international cup and shut up the people who doubt him.
