Gautam Gambhir, who now coaches India, has spoken up about talk that the BCCI said no to his picks for coaching staff. Gambhir made it clear that the board okayed most of what he asked for.
In his first time talking to reporters as coach, Gambhir touched on these stories. He said, “I was surprised to see reports about the BCCI rejecting my requests. I am quite happy with their response.”
Gambhir brought in two new assistant coaches: Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate. Both guys worked with Gambhir before at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL. Gambhir said having two assistant coaches will make it easier to handle all three main parts of the game.
T Dilip, who was in charge of fielding when Rahul Dravid was coach, is staying on. Sairaj Bahutule, who used to play for India as a leg-spinner, will also help out during the Sri Lanka tour. Ten Doeschate will meet up with the team in Colombo, while Nayar, Dilip, and Bahutule are going with the squad from the start.
Gambhir’s gonna wrap up picking the rest of the support staff after the Sri Lanka trip. He also said he might ask South African fast bowler Morne Morkel to be part of the coaching group.
Gambhir’s first job as head coach kicks off on July 27 when India begins its Sri Lanka tour with three T20Is and three ODIs.
