All-rounder Hardik Pandya has been in charge of India’s T20 cricket team for quite a while. He also served as the second-in-command during the T20 World Cup 2024.
People won’t forget India’s big win at the T20 World Cup 2024 anytime soon. But the celebration came with some sad news too. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja decided to hang up their T20 boots. Now that these three big shots have called it quits, the bigwigs have to pick a new boss. Hardik Pandya, who’s done a good job leading the team before, is a top choice. He was the right-hand man during the T20 World Cup 2024 and knocked it out of the park with his batting and bowling.
But a BCCI insider said they’re also thinking about Suryakumar Yadav to be captain.
“It’s a tricky thing. People have good reasons on both sides so not everyone’s on the same page. We’re worried about Hardik staying healthy, but he played a big part in India winning an ICC trophy. As for Suryakumar, the team’s told us good things about how he leads,” the BCCI insider told the Indian Express.
Surya was captain for India in a five-game T20I series against Australia last December. , he hurt his ankle during that time and couldn’t play for three months.
India beat Zimbabwe in the T20I series, and now they’re getting ready to play Sri Lanka in a white-ball series. The games start on July 27. This series is special because it’s the first time Gautam Gambhir will be the head coach. He’s taken over from Rahul Dravid after the World Cup ended. People think Gambhir will make a lot of changes to how the team works.
