India scripted history by winning the bronze medal in men’s hockey at the Paris Olympics 2024 in what can be described as the first back to back Olympic medals in 52 years. A throw of drama was witnessed during India and Spain match at Stade Yves-du-Manoir where Harmanpreet Singh was fantastic making two penalty corners so as to send India to the victory line 2-1. This is after they clinched a bronze medal in the just concluded games that were held in Tokyo three years ago. Since then, the Indian Olympic hockey team has had the consecutive medals in the years 1968 and 1972 only.
Veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, playing his final match for India, made several outstanding saves, particularly denying Spanish captain Marc Miralles from scoring through penalty corners. The Indian team celebrated Sreejesh’s brilliant performance and gave him a memorable send-off after the final whistle.
