Preparations for Indian Premier League season 18 have begun. As the first step in this, the process of signing the players has now started. This means that this time there will be a chance to retain only a few players in the team as the mega auction is going to take place. The rest of the players will have to be released for auction.
However, before the mega auction, some franchises have made new demands before the BCCI. That is, the franchises have demanded that the IPL retention rules be changed. BCCI is now in trouble as each franchise has different demands.
What is the demand for IPL franchises?
- A franchise has requested to be allowed to keep 8 players in the team.
- Some teams are allowed to retain 5 to 7 players.
- Some franchisees have requested to be allowed to use the RTM card as well.
- Some teams have also suggested implementing a no-retain, as well as a rule for auctioning released players.
- It is also reported that the auction amount should be increased from 100 crores to 120 crores.
- That is, here the IPL franchises have requested to change the rules of IPL mega auction with a different demand. If any provision is implemented in this, there will be opposition from some franchisees. That is why the BCCI has decided to hold a high-level meeting with the franchise owners.
What are the old mega auction terms?
As per IPL 2022 mega auction rules, a team can retain four players. Here a team has to spend Rs.42 crores to retain four players. 33 crores will have to be spent to retain the three. If two more players are retained, Rs. 24 crores to be paid. If one player is retained Rs. 14 crores to be paid. However, if a player who has not played in the national team is attached, they have to pay Rs.2.
Want to use 2 formulas to keep four players. Accordingly, two Indian players and two foreign players were allowed to be retained. Also, three Indian players and one foreign player can be retained.
3+2 formula was introduced in 2018 mega auction. Accordingly, the RTM card option is allowed to be used on two players. This means that players retained by RTM are released for auction and if another team buys them for a higher amount, they are given the opportunity to keep them for that amount.
Now, some franchises have demanded to increase the number of retained players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. At the same time, some franchisees have demanded that there is no retain process. That is, there is no consensus among the IPL franchises on the mega auction rule. And finally we have to wait and see what decision BCCI takes.
