Ishan Kishan, who last played for India, across all formats, 2024 is now being given an opportunity to comeback into the national team through the Duleep Trophy. However, with no international matches planned for Team India prior to the two-Test series against Bangladesh starting from September 18, the BCCI has decided to include seniors in Duleep trophy, which may open doors for Kishan’s return.
Duleep Trophy which will be held in Andhra Pradesh will see the first round being played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. This year’s tournament will be conducted on a national basis and not in zonal bases as it is normally done The names of the Indian teams to be fielded will be India A, B, C, and D and the teams will be chosen through the national selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar.
With the presence of new head coach Gautam Gambhir focusing on domestic cricket, the senior players for recommendation include Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja, and R. Ashwin. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are available to play but will have to make way for Jasprit Bumrah, who will be rested due to his heavy work load.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, Kishan has been included in the list of players to be named in the Duleep Trophy squad, meaning that he is part of the selectors’ scheme of things. Good performance in this tournament may mean that he will regain his place in India’s squad. The Duleep Trophy matches are to be played between September 5 to 8 and September 12 to 15.
