Gautam Gambhir got the job as India’s new cricket coach when Rahul Dravid stepped down after winning the T20 World Cup 2024.
Rahul Dravid’s time as coach ended with India’s big win at the T20 World Cup 2024. Gautam Gambhir then took over as the new head coach of India’s cricket team. People thought Gambhir would get the job after Dravid and his first task will be to lead the team in the T20I and ODI games against Sri Lanka. But this new job means Kolkata Knight Riders lost their mentor who helped them win the IPL 2024 title.
People say Abhishek Nayar might join Gambhir as part of Team India’s coaches. This makes KKR want to change their coaching team for 2025. KKR thought about Dravid, but a new story suggests they’re interested in Jacques Kallis, the famous South African player. Kallis could be on KKR’s radar to shake up their coaching staff.
Kallis played for KKR during his career. He grabbed IPL wins in 2012 and 2014 when Gambhir led the team. Kallis took on the role of batting consultant for KKR in 2015. When Trevor Bayliss left to coach England, Kallis got a promotion.
For four IPL seasons, Kallis headed up KKR as coach until 2019. He then quit and joined South Africa’s cricket team to advise on batting. This move came after his long stint with KKR where he had worn many hats over the years. His journey with the team saw him shift from player to consultant to head coach showcasing his versatility in cricket roles.
Gambhir’s appointment as the Indian cricket team’s head coach opens the door for Kallis to return to KKR’s coaching staff. This change might bring Kallis back into the KKR setup.
