Pistol Shooter Manu Bhaker failed to bag her third medal at Paris Olympics 2024 and barely qualified for a Fourth Position in the Women’s 25m pistol Shooting event on Saturday. Manu who was already a double bronze medalist was also very close to adding another medal, however she shot an amazing 8 against my 7 in a shoot off for the bronze to Hungary’s Veronika Major.
Both shooters were tied at 28 after Series 8, leading to a shoot-off. Manu hit the target three times, while Major hit it four times, ending Manu’s run in the final.
“I was very nervous in the final. I was trying on every shot but things were not working out. However, there is always a next time, and I will try my best the next time round,” Manu said after the event.
In the qualification round on Friday, Bhaker scored a total of 590 (294 in precision and 296 in rapid) out of 600, finishing second to reach her third final at these Olympics.
Earlier, Manu had won a bronze in the individual 10m air pistol event and another bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event with Sarabjot Singh. This made her the first Indian to win two medals at the same Olympics after Independence.
Besides Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh, Swapnil Kusale won a bronze medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3P event. Kusale’s performance marked the first time an Indian shooter won a medal in this event. He finished third with a total score of 451.4, securing India’s third medal in shooting overall.
