Indian pistol shooter Manu Bhaker, aiming for her third Olympic medal, delivered an outstanding performance in the 25m sports pistol event, finishing second in the qualification round and securing a spot in the final in Chateauroux on Friday.
The 22-year-old, who already has two bronze medals from the 10m women’s air pistol and the 10m air pistol mixed team event with Sarabjot Singh, scored an impressive 294 in the ‘precision’ round. She was even better in the rapid round, scoring 296, for a total of 590 points.
She is just two points behind Veronika Major of Hungary, who led the qualification with a total of 592 points, equalling the Olympic record.
India has won three shooting medals so far, with Manu taking two bronzes and Swapnil Kusale winning a bronze in the 50m rifle three positions event on Thursday.
