Mitchell Starc, who plays for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), told a funny tale about how his pay stacked up against the IPL 2024 prize money. Even though he’s the highest-paid player ever in IPL history, Starc didn’t do so hot this season. But he got his groove back during the knockout games helping KKR grab their third IPL title with some killer bowling.
Chatting on Willow Talk, Starc spilled the beans about a joke from KKR’s young gun Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Angkrish cracked wise about how the winning team’s prize money, which was 20 crore rupees, was less than what Starc pocketed for the season – a whopping 24.75 crore rupees.
“The IPL final show didn’t kick off till midnight, which kinda ruined the mood. When they brought out the checks for the team that won, Angkrish looked at it and went, ‘Huh! It’s not even what you got paid,'” Starc said in a video that blew up online.
It’s weird that one player in a big tournament like the IPL makes more than the cash prize given to the winning team. Angkrish, who also had a killer season for KKR, couldn’t help but poke fun at Starc about this after stepping up to bat when Nitish Rana was out earlier in the season.
