Cricket fever is at an all-time high in Mumbai as thousands of fans eagerly await the arrival of the T20 World Cup champions. Marine Drive is a sea of enthusiastic supporters, and the iconic Wankhede Stadium is nearly packed to the brim, ready to erupt in celebration.
However, the highly anticipated open-top bus parade and felicitation ceremony have encountered some delays. The Indian team’s flight from Delhi landed later than expected, pushing back their scheduled arrival in Mumbai. Additionally, the massive crowds lining the parade route and sudden evening showers are posing logistical challenges.
Delayed Departures and Eager Fans
According to news agency PTI, the team arrived in Mumbai around 5:00 PM IST, significantly later than the planned departure time of 5:00 PM for the two-hour parade. The originally scheduled route stretched from the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Nariman Point to the Wankhede Stadium.
The delay can be attributed to the team’s late departure from Delhi. Their flight, which typically takes around 2 hours and 10 minutes, took off only at 3:42 PM. This lateness can be traced back to their extended stay in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl, which disrupted air travel.
Celebrations on Hold, But Spirits High
While the delays are a minor hurdle, the enthusiasm of the fans remains undampened. Thousands are patiently waiting along the parade route, braving the unexpected rain showers. The wait might be extended, but the spirit of celebration is undeniable.
A Historic Victory and New Beginnings
India’s thrilling victory against South Africa in Bridgetown on Saturday marked a momentous occasion, their first World Cup win (ODI or T20) in 13 years. However, this triumph also comes with a tinge of farewell. Captain Rohit Sharma, star batsman Virat Kohli, and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja have announced their retirement from T20 internationals. This World Cup also served as the final assignment for head coach Rahul Dravid.
Despite the goodbyes, the air in Mumbai crackles with excitement. Fans are eager to celebrate the team’s incredible achievement and witness a victory parade that will be etched in memory for years to come
