India’s hope for a first-ever Olympic gold in badminton was dashed when Lakshya Sen lost to reigning Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen in the men’s singles semifinals at the Paris Games on Sunday. The 22-year-old from Almora, who won a bronze at the 2021 World Championships, lost the first game after leading by three points and then gave up a 7-0 lead in the second game, resulting in a 20-22, 14-21 defeat to two-time world champion Axelsen in a 54-minute match.
Lakshya Sen will now take on Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia for the bronze medal match and tries to make history to become the first-ever Indian male player to bag an Olympics medal.
