Spain’s football federation (RFEF) is dealing with a fresh mess just a few days after Spain won the Euro 2024 final. News reports on Tuesday said that President Pedro Rocha got a two-year ban.
Spanish news sources Onda Cero and Iusport shared that Spain’s Administrative Tribunal of Sport (TAD) put Rocha on ice for making choices that went beyond what he was allowed to do, like firing Andreu Camps, the federation’s general secretary. Rocha stepped into the RFEF president role in April taking over from Luis Rubiales. Rubiales had to quit in September 2023 after he smooched player Jenni Hermoso during the Women’s World Cup medal event.
Both Rocha and Rubiales are being looked into for shady stuff involving the federation while Rubiales was in charge. The TAD’s punishment might stop Rocha from trying to be president in the federation’s next vote in September.
A copy of the decision shared by an Onda Cero reporter, shows the court has told Rocha he can’t have any job in a sports federation for two years.
Iusport said Rocha wants to fight this decision and ask to keep his job until his appeal is settled, which would let him try to be president again in the
fall.
Spain’s National Sports Council (CSD), which keeps an eye on the TAD, didn’t say anything when AFP asked about it on Tuesday.
