Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal did great in the series, both hitting the ball well. As India gets ready to play Sri Lanka in 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs old head selector Saba Karim thinks the team bosses should pick both guys to open. He also said to give Abhishek Sharma a shot, since Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav will bat at No. 3 and No. 4.
“The top spots are gonna be super important,” Karim told Sony Sports. “They should pick Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill. Abhishek Sharma needs to be in the 15-player team too ’cause you’ve got Rishabh Pant at number 3 and Suryakumar Yadav at number 4.”
Gautam Gambhir’s gonna coach his first series, and since Hardik Pandya can’t play after winning the T20 World Cup 2024, they’re gonna need a new captain.
“The captain in T20Is plays a big role,” Karim noted. “Gautam Gambhir is now the head coach so he and the captain need to get on the same page about game plans. Ruturaj Gaikwad might also get a chance to bat up top.”
India’s B team bounced back well after dropping the opener, according to skipper Shubman Gill. He gave props to his squad for staying hungry and rolling with the punches even with the tough conditions and long flights.
“We had a great series,” Gill said. “After losing that first game, we came back strong. It was cool to see how we handled the different conditions.”
