Pakistan star pacer Shaheen Afridi could miss their upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh because of the birth of his first child. Shaheen, 26, who got married to Ansha last year, is expecting his first child’s birth and could miss a Test series against Bangladesh next month. “Shaheen can miss Bangladesh Test matches due to childbirth. We can give him some rest if he wants to stay with his wife till then,” said Pakistan’s red-ball coach Jason Gillispie .
Their Nikah ceremony was done last year in February, but the wedding reception was held in September 2023.
Recently, Shaheen was in the headlines due to reports of his misbehavior with the Pakistan coaches. Ahead of the recently concluded T20 World Cup, Shaheen Afridi had heated arguments with Pakistan batting coach Mohammad Yousuf on Pakistan’s T20I tour of England. Sources said Shaheen and Yousuf exchanged heated words, but after that, the pacer apologized to him. Multiple sources in Pakistan cricket team management confirmed that the issue took place in the “heat of the moment” and was soon resolved.
A source recalled the incident , saying that the flare-up occurred during a training session when Yousuf told Shaheen to check the no-balls. Shaheen finally lost his cool after being constantly nagged. A source says that “Shaheen said to Mohammad Yousuf to let him do what he was doing, and he [Yousuf] should mind his own business,” adding the former replied he was a coach and doing his job.
Pakistan’s next white-ball series will commence in November against Australia. Beforehand, they will play two Test matches in red-ball cricket against Bangladesh, also in Harare, beginning August 21.
