After India beat Zimbabwe 4-1 in their series, Shubman Gill talked about how being captain makes him play better and lead well.
Gill didn’t get picked for the T20 World Cup team, but he did great in the games against Zimbabwe. He scored 170 runs as the opening batter and captain averaging 42.50. This was his first time as India’s main captain, and Gill said he liked having that job. People are talking about who will take over from Rohit Sharma as captain, so they’ll watch Gill when he leads the team in upcoming games against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
“I like being the boss. It gets the best out of me on the field because I love to be in the middle of things. It lets me show a part of myself that I enjoy,” Gill said about his experience as captain.
He knows there’s pressure that comes with batting and leading a team but likes getting through tough spots. Gill says he learned a lot from Rohit Sharma and other big names like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Hardik Pandya. This has helped shape how he leads and his goal to be a regular player for India in all types of games.
“I picked up a bunch of stuff from Rohit bro and the others. They all have their own special things. Rohit bro, in particular, has had a big impact on me, and I’ve enjoyed playing on his team,” Gill said.
Gill pointed out how well other batters like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Abhishek Sharma did against Zimbabwe showing there’s a lot of competition for spots on the team. He thinks this competition will make India’s team stronger especially after they just won the T20 World Cup.
“It’s awesome to see everyone doing so well. It shows how much our team wants to win and how competitive we are. It’s a good sign for Indian cricket,” Gill wrapped up feeling good about who might be picked for the team in the future.
