Indian wrestling sensation Vinesh Phogat has etched her name in the annals of Indian sports by securing a spot in the Olympic semifinals. Competing in the 50kg category, Phogat’s journey to the final four has been nothing short of spectacular.
Phogat’s campaign started on a historic high when she defeated the Olympic champion from Japan in her opener, Yui Susaki. The hard-working Indian wrestler went on another extraordinary knock-out spree, to vanquish Ukraine’s Oksana Livach in the quarter-final round.
Thus, this accomplishment makes Phogat the nearest to secure an Olympic medal in her wrestling career though she has tried twice in the past but could not succeed. Her next match will be against Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez who will be her opponent in a semifinal match.
