Ex-cricket stars Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, and Suresh Raina are in hot water for a video they made. They tried to copy actor Vicky Kaushal’s popular dance from the song “Tauba Tauba.” Groups fighting for disability rights say the video makes fun of people with disabilities.
The cricket players put the video on Instagram after India’s Champions team beat Pakistan Champions by five wickets in the World Championship of Legends final. You can see Yuvraj, Harbhajan, and Raina in the video walking with a limp and holding their backs, acting out how tired they were after the games.
The caption said, “Body ki Tauba Tauba ho Gayi in 15 days legends cricket.. Every bit of the body hurts. Direct rivalry to our bros @vickykaushal09 @karanaujla our take on Tauba Tauba dance. What a TUNE.”
The video upset disability activists. The National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled (NPRD) labeled it “shameful.”
“This kind of behavior from national icons reveals their lack of sensitivity and rudeness,” NPRD wrote in a post on X.
Arman Ali, who runs the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People, told the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to do something. “It’s gross to watch India’s best cricket players make fun of disability. It’s awful and terrible behavior from people lots of folks look up to. They should be ashamed. I’m asking BCCI to pay attention to this right away,” he said.
Satendra Singh, who fights for disability rights, slammed the cricket players for not caring Yuvraj Singh, who had cancer. “Tons of people copy them and will do the same things. They don’t feel bad and are laughing at people with disabilities,” he told PTI.
