The Bengaluru-based advertising technology firm, InMobi, is currently undergoing a comprehensive restructuring process, set to be concluded by the end of the month. This development follows Paytm’s recent announcement of significant operational adjustments, involving the reduction of over 1000 jobs, which has been labeled as the “steepest startup job cuts of 2023.” InMobi’s restructuring aims to position the company strategically in the evolving market landscape, showcasing the dynamic challenges faced by players in the advertising technology sector.
InMobi’s Strategic Overhaul
According to an unnamed executive, InMobi Group is undergoing a strategic overhaul that encompasses various business facets such as technology, organizational structure, and skillsets. The company is implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) across its operations, anticipating its profound impact on customer interaction, communication, sales, and overall business processes. As part of this transformation, InMobi is expected to phase out some of its legacy processes.
Official Statement from InMobi
In response to inquiries from ET (Economic Times), InMobi acknowledged the global influence of AI and highlighted the rapidly changing market needs and expectations from customers, including brands, agencies, and developers. However, the company did not explicitly confirm the impending job cuts. Instead, it stated, “The changes that we are bringing in at the organization level are a proactive step for us to address the above needs, stay competitive, and win globally in this decade and beyond.”
InMobi’s Network and Backing
InMobi enjoys support from major players, including Google, Jio Platforms, and Mithril Capital. The group operates through two entities – InMobi Ads, a business-to-business (B2B) company specializing in advertising technology, and Glance, a business-to-consumer (B2C) company offering a smart lock screen platform designed for Android smartphones. Glance, currently operating in six markets, has plans to extend its presence to the United States and Europe in the coming months.
