The MLA and MP candidate confirmation process in Andhra Pradesh nears completion ahead of the May 13th polls. While parties make final adjustments, the bulk of candidate selection is finalized. Let’s examine the caste dynamics of YSR Congress, Telugu Desam, and Janasena.
YSR Congress, representing the Reddy lineage, allocated around 50 MLA tickets to Reddy candidates, constituting nearly one-third of its total candidates. In MP candidate lists, Reddys dominate, including Avinash Reddy, Mithun Reddy, Vijayasai Reddy, and Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy.
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) allotted 32 out of 144 MLA tickets to Kamma community candidates, accounting for 22% of the total allocation. TDP’s approach appears to be the least caste-centric among the major parties.
Janasena, with an affinity for the Kapu community, allocated 10 out of 21 MLA tickets to Kapu candidates, representing nearly half of its seats. This highlights the party’s strong alignment with the Kapu community.
