The president of the All India Congress Committee, Mallikarjun Kharge, declared that if Congress secured victory in the upcoming assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Y.S. Sharmila, the state’s PCC president, would assume the role of chief minister.
During the launch of the party’s election campaign at a public gathering known as Nyaya Sadhana Sabha in Anantapur town, Kharge asserted that Sharmila, the sister of the current chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, was the ideal candidate for the CM position in AP.
He highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s legacy of producing influential leaders like Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, emphasizing Y.S. Sharmila leadership role within the State Congress and predicting her eventual ascension to the chief minister’s office.
Kharge unveiled the Congress party’s guarantee for Andhra Pradesh, promising financial aid of Rs 5,000 per month to every impoverished household if the party clinched victory in the upcoming elections. Dubbed “Indiramma Abhayam,” this initiative aimed to support all marginalized communities.
He assured that the Congress was committed to implementing the scheme effectively, promising lasting positive impacts on the state’s populace. Kharge criticized the perceived neglect of Andhra Pradesh by both the Telugu Desam Party and the YSR Congress Party over the past decade, citing a lack of development funds.
Furthermore, he condemned the Prime Minister’s indifference towards granting special category status to AP and the neglect of the Polavaram project. Kharge lamented the failure of both the TDP and YSRCP to challenge the Prime Minister on these issues.
