At the 50th G7 Summit in Borgo Egnazia, Fasano, Apulia, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni welcomed world leaders with a heartfelt ‘namaste.’ This traditional Indian greeting, done with folded hands, quickly went viral on social media, earning widespread admiration.

From June 13 to 15, Italy is hosting this important event, with discussions mainly focused on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and the Israel-Hamas conflict. Leaders from the G7 nations the US, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Canada, and Japan are attending.

On the first day, notable attendees included US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, alongside Meloni. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is also set to join a session discussing the Russian invasion.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Italy late Thursday, marking his first international trip since securing a third consecutive term after the BJP-led NDA’s victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Modi will join the G7 outreach session on Friday, along with leaders from Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, Egypt, Kenya, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Tunisia, and Turkey.

Modi’s schedule includes meetings with several key leaders, such as US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. There is also speculation about a potential meeting with President Zelensky, though this is not yet confirmed.
