Just last week, YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy undertook a strategic reshuffling of assembly constituencies for several party MLAs to enhance their electoral chances. One notable shift was that of Vellampalli Srinivas Rao, former Endowments Minister in Jagan’s cabinet, from Vijayawada (West) to Vijayawada (Central), displacing sitting MLA Malladi Vishnu.
The reshuffling aimed to optimize winning prospects, and in Vijayawada (West), the party ticket was awarded to minority candidate Shaik Asif. Vellampalli, who had diligently nurtured Vijayawada (West) for the past four years, expressed dissatisfaction with the change but had no alternative.
Reportedly, Vellampalli appealed to Jagan to retain him in his original constituency, but the Chief Minister asserted that the party would face challenges if Vellampalli contested from Vijayawada (West). However, even in Vijayawada (Central), Vellampalli’s seat faces uncertainty due to speculations that Kesineni Swetha, the daughter of Vijayawada MP Kesineni Nani, might join YSRCP and receive the party ticket for Vijayawada (Central).
Both Kesineni and Swetha have announced their resignations from the Telugu Desam Party, and while they haven’t finalized their new political allegiance, YSRCP sources indicate Jagan’s interest in bringing Swetha into the party and nominating her for the upcoming elections.
If Swetha indeed secures the ticket for Vijayawada (Central), Vellampalli’s political standing becomes precarious. Clarity on his position is expected to emerge in the coming days, shedding light on the dynamics of YSRCP’s candidate selection and potential challenges for Vellampalli in the shifting political landscape.
