PhD Student Dies: Last week, tragedy struck as a 33-year-old Indian PhD Student Dies, Cheistha Kochhar, lost her life in a devastating traffic incident while cycling back to her London home. Former CEO of NITI Aayog, Amitabh Kant, mourned her untimely demise in an online post, highlighting her bright and brilliant nature.
Cheistha Kochhar, who previously worked with the public policy think-tank NITI Aayog, was pursuing her PhD in behavioral science at the London School of Economics. She was hit by a garbage truck on March 19 while cycling, with her husband, Prashant, witnessing the accident and rushing to her aid. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries on the spot.
Her father, Lt Gen SP Kochhar (retired), currently in London to repatriate her remains, shared his grief on LinkedIn, inviting testimonials and memories with her. Kochhar’s journey from Gurugram to London for her doctoral studies showcased her academic prowess, having previously studied at prestigious institutions like Delhi University, Ashoka University, and the Universities of Pennsylvania and Chicago.
Kochhar’s impactful career included a senior advisory role at India’s National Behavioural Insights Unit at NITI Aayog from 2021 to 2023, as noted on her LinkedIn profile. Her sudden demise has left her family, friends, and colleagues in shock and mourning.
