TDP leader N. Chandrababu Naidu is actively seeking BC (Backward Class) candidates for the upcoming Parliament polls. The quest for suitable BC candidates has gained momentum as the elections approach, with TDP’s poll strategist, Robin Sharma, actively engaged in the selection process.
While it remains unclear how many seats the TDP will allocate to its ally, Jana Sena, it is anticipated that the TDP will field candidates in the remaining 20 constituencies, losing five to the Jana Sena. Naidu is expected to focus on nominating BC candidates in at least 10 constituencies.
Party sources reveal that surveys are underway to identify potential BC candidates in constituencies such as Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam in North Andhra, Vijayawada, Nellore, Ongole, Rajampet, Hindupur, Anantapur, Narasaraopet, and Guntur. Speculation suggests that existing TDP incumbents in these constituencies may be replaced with new candidates.
In Vijayawada, Kesineni has been expelled from the party, and there are indications that his brother, Kesineni Sivadhar will be fielded. In Guntur, a new candidate needs to be chosen. Meanwhile, in Srikakulam, MP Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu expressed a preference to contest as an MLA rather than an MP, suggesting a potential shift to Narsipatnam.
The strategy indicates that, apart from constituencies allocated to Jana Sena, new candidates will be fielded in all other places. Naidu is keen on introducing strong candidates from the BC community, recognizing the necessity of striking a caste-equation balance given that BCs constitute half of the state’s population.
