The YSRCP, led by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in Andhra Pradesh, is keen on seizing any opportunity to target the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), led by N Chandrababu Naidu, if it sees a chance for political gain.
Initially, the entry of Jagan’s sister, Y S Sharmila, into Andhra Pradesh politics by joining the Congress party appeared to be a consequence of internal conflicts within the YSR family, seemingly unrelated to the TDP.
Although Sharmila’s decision may not significantly impact the YSRCP in the upcoming assembly elections, Jagan and his party leaders are attempting to leverage it to their advantage by implicating the TDP in the development.
On a Wednesday, Jagan indirectly accused Chandrababu Naidu of attempting to sow discord within families for political gain. “Naidu does not hesitate to hatch conspiracies to split the families of others, if it helps the TDP politically,” he remarked.
The following day, as Sharmila formally joined the Congress party, senior YSRCP leader and state power minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy echoed a similar sentiment, suggesting that Naidu and Sonia Gandhi would engage in dirty politics by not only dividing families but also the public. “Whoever they are, the YSRCP will see them as opposition if they work against the YSRCP. Any Congress leader is our political rival,” hinted Peddireddy, referring to Sharmila.
Another outspoken YSRC leader, MLA Kodali Nani, also claimed that Chandrababu Naidu was behind Sharmila’s entry into the Congress. Accusing Naidu of creating rifts within families, Nani described him as a “luchcha” (dirty fellow) who exploits family divisions for his political gains.
The YSRCP leaders alleged that Naidu, known for separating family members, takes advantage of situations like the death of a father to create divisions among children, using them as pawns for his political agenda.
Despite these accusations, they maintained that Sharmila’s entry into the Congress would not fracture the YSRCP’s vote bank. Nani emphasized, “When she is not useful to us, how can she be useful to the TDP? We have nothing to lose with her decision. The Congress doesn’t have even one percent of the vote in Andhra Pradesh.
