Renowned filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali recently opened up about his approach to making films, including his much-anticipated projects: a biopic of legendary poet Sahir Ludhianvi and the movie *Inshallah*. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Bhansali emphasized that the inspiration to create a film must come from “deep within.” He explained that the process of deciding to make a film is spontaneous and driven by an internal calling.

Sahir Ludhianvi Biopic and Inshallah

Bhansali shared insights into his creative process, mentioning how projects evolve unexpectedly. “As new opportunities unfold, you’ll see what I decide to make. I don’t know in advance. It’s all about the filmmaker’s inner calling,” Bhansali said. He reflected on his decision-making process, illustrating with examples from his past projects: “I could be working on *Gangubai Kathiawadi*, and then suddenly switch to *Ram Leela*. It’s the same with *Inshallah* and *Gangubai*. The inspiration has to come from a deep, personal place.”

Bhansali emphasized the deep commitment required to make a film. “When I decide on a project, I am fully immersed. It becomes a part of my soul, a necessity for my existence. I can’t choose a project just because it sounds good on paper or has a star-studded cast. It has to resonate deeply with me,” he explained.

Heeramandi: A Long-Awaited Dream

Reflecting on his recent project Heeramandi, Bhansali recounted his long-standing desire to create it. “I wanted to make it 18 years ago. After every film, the idea of *Heeramandi* would resurface, but it felt too epic for a single movie,” he said. The project, which took 14 years of planning and two years of designing, has finally come to fruition as a series on Netflix, showcasing the cultural intricacies of Heeramandi through the stories of courtesans and their patrons. The series features an ensemble cast including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, and Aditi Rao Hydari.

Bhansali’s journey in the OTT space with Heeramandi marks a significant milestone. He recently announced another exciting project titled *Love & War*, featuring Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, and Ranbir Kapoor.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali continues to captivate audiences with his dedication to storytelling and his ability to bring epic narratives to life. Fans eagerly await his next cinematic masterpiece, driven by the filmmaker’s profound inner calling.
