Get ready for another thrilling adventure with Moana and Maui! Disney has released the first trailer for “Moana 2,” the eagerly awaited sequel to the 2016 hit. This new chapter, set to release on November 29, promises more excitement and adventure.
Moana and Maui Return
In “Moana 2,” Auli’i Cravalho returns as Moana, and Dwayne Johnson reprises his role as Maui. The trailer shows Moana answering a call from her ancestors to “sail to new skies and reconnect our people across the entire ocean.” Moana and Maui reunite three years after their first adventure, joined by a new crew of sailors.
Stunning Animation
The trailer features breathtaking water animation, including a scene where Moana floats in front of a giant whale shark. Fans will be happy to see Moana’s pets, Heihei the rooster and Pua the pig, returning for the sequel. This time, Pua joins Moana on her journey, addressing fans’ disappointment from the first film where he was left behind.
In a funny moment, Maui appears on Moana’s boat and asks, “Why didn’t you bring the pig last time?”
Behind the Scenes and Upcoming Plans
David G. Derrick Jr. is the writer and director of this animated sequel. “Moana 2” also includes new songs by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear. Initially planned as a TV series, the project evolved into a theatrical release, increasing fans’ anticipation.
Disney also revealed the official poster for “Moana 2,” showing Maui’s fish hook on a beach with Moana in the background. Disney is developing a live-action “Moana” remake, directed by Thomas Kail and starring Dwayne Johnson, set to premiere on July 10, 2026.
The original “Moana,” released in 2016, was a huge success, earning $687 million globally and receiving two Oscar nominations. It followed Moana as she left her home island of Motunui to save her people with the help of Maui.
“Moana 2” promises more heartwarming and exciting moments as Moana and Maui embark on another epic adventure. Mark your calendars for November 29 and get ready to set sail again!
