Manamey Review:
Rating: 3/5
Story:
Vikram (Sharwanand) is a carefree, flirtatious guy living in London. When his friends Anurag (Adith Ram) and Shanti die in an accident, Vikram and Subadra (Krithi Shetty) unexpectedly become the caretakers of their baby boy, Kushi. The film follows their journey as they navigate the challenges of raising Kushi and how their lives change in the process.
Positives:
- Sharwanand: Sharwanand’s performance as the playful and carefree Vikram is engaging and adds charm to the film.
- Cinematography: The visuals, especially the scenic European locations, are beautifully captured and enhance the film’s appeal.
- Vennela Kishore: Some of Vennela Kishore’s jokes land well, providing occasional comic relief.
Negatives:
- Cliched Narrative: The storyline is riddled with predictability and old tropes, making the film feel formulaic and unoriginal.
- Songs: The music fails to leave an impact, with too many songs that do not add value to the narrative.
Weak Characters: Performances by some actors, including Rahul Ravindran as the villain, lack depth and fail to impress. - Inconsistent Execution: The film struggles with its pacing and emotional depth, especially in scenes involving the baby, which are crucial to the story.
Technical Aspects:
- Production Values: The film boasts good production values and picturesque locations.
- Music: Hesham Abdul Wahab’s background score is underwhelming and does not complement the visuals effectively.
- Screenplay: The screenplay is weak, with cliched and unconvincing scenes, particularly in the first half.
Verdict:
Manamey aims to blend humor and emotion but falls short due to its cliched narrative and inconsistent execution. While Sharwanand’s energy and a few comedic moments provide some entertainment, the film overall lacks originality and fails to deliver a compelling emotional experience.
