TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu and JDU leader Nitish Kumar, that 28 parliamentary places are critical to the BJP-led NDA, are backing outgoing prime minister Narendra Modi while he sets up for a third term. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which obtained 293 seats in the 2024 parliamentary elections, more than the 272-seat the age of majority, will establish a fresh government on Saturday. This delegation included TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and JDU leader Nitish Kumar, whose combined 28 places are critical to the NDA’s majority. Naidu’s TDP won 16 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh, and he also won the Assembly elections to retain his position as Chief Minister. Modi, aware of their importance, mentioned Naidu and Kumar during his victory speech on Tuesday night at the party headquarters in Delhi.

Neither leader has revealed their plans yet, but sources say they have made demands, including special status for their states and choice ministerial positions. On Tuesday, the INDIA bloc surprised many by challenging the BJP in a national election for the first time since the ‘Modi wave’ of 2014, finishing with 232 seats. INDIA leaders, such as Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, are said to are hesitant to approach Naidu or Kumar, but the intention seems to be there. The House of Representatives achieved its best achievement since 2009, gaining 99 seats.
