Gangs of Godavari Review:

Rating: 2.5/5

Gangs of Godavari is the latest film featuring Mass Ka Das Vishwak Sen. Directed by Krishna Chaitanya, the movie hit theaters today with decent expectations. Let’s see how it fares.

Story:

The story unfolds in the village of Kovvuru, where Lankala Ratnam (Vishwak Sen) dreams of achieving success and joins MLA Dorasami Raju’s (Goparaju Ramana) faction. Eventually, he switches allegiance to Nanaji’s (Nassar) camp and becomes an MLA. However, his methods create enemies, and he transforms into Tiger Ratnakar, facing numerous challenges. How Ratnakar navigates these challenges, and the role of Bujji (Neha Shetty) in his life forms the crux of the story.

Positives:

  • Vishwak Sen’s Performance: Vishwak Sen shines as Lankala Ratnakar, capturing the Godavari accent and showcasing the character’s journey from vulnerability to arrogance.
  • Anjali and Neha Shetty: Anjali delivers a powerful performance despite limited screen time, and Neha Shetty impresses with a unique role.
  • Action Sequences: The first half’s action scenes are well-executed, with Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music enhancing the overall impact.
  • Supporting Cast: Goparaju Ramana, Nassar, and Hyper Aadi contribute effectively to their roles.

Negatives:

  • Pacing Issues: The second half loses momentum, failing to maintain the excitement of the first half.
  • Screenplay: The screenplay lacks the punch needed to keep the audience engaged throughout.
  • Character Development: Neha Shetty’s character could have been better developed, and Anjali’s role expanded.
  • Execution: Some potentially impactful scenes are presented in a mundane manner, missing the opportunity for greater impact.
  • Casting: A more notable actor as the MLA could have added depth to the character.

Technical Aspects:

  • Direction: Krishna Chaitanya’s direction is commendable, but the second half could have been more engaging.
  • Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja’s score is a highlight, enhancing the movie’s mood and intensity.
  • Cinematography: Anith Madhadi’s cinematography is decent, adding visual appeal to the film.
  • Editing: Navin Nooli’s editing in the first half is effective, but the second half could have been tighter.
  • Production Values: The production values are high, adding a polished look to the movie.

Verdict:

Gangs of Godavari is a mixed bag. While Vishwak Sen and Anjali deliver strong performances, the movie falters in the second half due to pacing issues, a lackluster screenplay, and underdeveloped characters. If you’re looking for solid entertainment this weekend, you might want to explore other options.
