India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has attended his first net session with the team in New York preparing for the T20 World Cup warm-up match against Bangladesh on June 1. This marks Pant’s return to the Indian team after nearly 17 months. He preliminarily made his comeback in April during the Indian Premier League( IPL) where he not only played the full season but also led the Delhi centrals despite recovering from severe injuries sustained in a auto accident.

In the IPL, Rishabh Pant scored 446 runs, including three half-centurys, and finished as the loftiest run- arranger for his platoon. He maundered at a strike rate of 155.40 in the middle order. Reflecting on his return to the Indian team the 26-year-old expressed his excitement about reuniting with his teammates after his recuperation at the National Cricket Academy( NCA).

“This is one thing I missed a lot. Getting back on the field with the Indian jersey on is a different feel altogether and this is something I missed a lot. Seeing the teammates meeting them again, spending time, having fun with them, and enjoying conversations—I’m really enjoying it,” Pant said in a video posted by BCCI on X.

“We are used to playing in certain countries, but this is a different prospect. It has opened up an alternate channel for sport since I feel cricket is becoming all over the planet. Getting exposure in a country like the US would be nice for cricket as well as USA cricket,” he added.

Pant mentioned he’s conforming to the new conditions, noting that the sun shines a bit lustrously in the US and the pitches are different. ” So just getting used to conditions over then, and let’s see how it goes.

Hopefully I make it count and ameliorate from then” he concluded. India is set to face Ireland in their T20 World Cup opening match in New York on June 5 followed by a largely anticipated clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9.
