RCB vs RR: Rajasthan Royals are gearing up for a crucial challenge in the IPL 2024 Eliminator against the resurgent Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Wednesday. The Royals had been in a strong position to top the league standings but experienced a downturn with four consecutive defeats and a rain-affected no-result against Kolkata Knight Riders leaving them in third place just behind Sunrisers Hyderabad.

RCB led by Faf du Plessis, have staged a remarkable comeback after a dismal start to their season. After losing seven of their first eight matches RCB went on a winning spree securing six consecutive victories and knocking out the defending champions Chennai Super Kings to clinch a playoff spot.

While Rajasthan Royals enter the Eliminator after a series of setbacks RCB’s impressive winning streak signals their intent to make a deep run in the playoffs. However weather could play a crucial role in determining the outcome of this match.

According to IPL 2024’s Match Playing Conditions Rule 13.7.3, an additional 120 minutes to accommodate any rain delays. This rule applies to both league-stage and playoff matches. For the playoffs there is also a provision for a Reserve Day ensuring that the IPL 2024 Eliminator between RCB and RR can be completed if weather disrupts the scheduled day.

This season unlike previous editions the IPL has included Reserve Days for all playoff matches including the final on May 26. If the match is interrupted and unable to resume on the scheduled day it will be restarted from the beginning on Reserve Day.

Should adverse weather persist and prevent any play on both the scheduled day and the reserve day the team that finished higher in the league standings will advance. Therefore, if the eliminator between RCB and RR is washed out entirely the Rajasthan Royals will move on to Qualifier 2 due to their higher league position.

This ruling underscores the importance of league-stage performance giving Rajasthan Royals a potential edge if rain disrupts the eliminator.
