Edgbaston Stadium in England has been selected as the fan park venue for the highly anticipated India VS Pakistan clash in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 on June 9th. With a capacity of up to 8,000 spectators, it’s among the few chosen venues by the International Cricket Council (ICC). This marks the first instance in the UK where cricket enthusiasts can witness a live match screening within the stadium.
According to the venue’s official announcement, fans will relish the cricket action on a large screen while enjoying pre-match entertainment featuring comedian and cricket commentator Aatif Nawaz alongside former India and Pakistan players.
Stuart Cain, Chief Executive of Edgbaston, expressed excitement, stating, “Being designated as a T20 World Cup Fan Zone location by the ICC is a tremendous honor for us. This presents a unique opportunity for our local communities to immerse themselves in the T20 World Cup atmosphere, promising an unforgettable experience.”
Highlighting the intense rivalry between India and Pakistan, Cain recalled the electric atmosphere generated by fans during the 2019 Cricket World Cup, expressing confidence in recreating a similar ambiance in the Fan Zone.
The India-Pakistan cricket encounters in international tournaments have been infrequent since bilateral ties were suspended in 2013. In T20 World Cups history, India has emerged victorious over Pakistan in five out of six encounters, including the memorable 2007 title clash.
The much-anticipated clash between the two cricketing giants will take place at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 9th, marking their first meeting of the year.
