Mumbai – In a tragic event early Monday morning, 27-year-old law student Lipi Rastogi ended her life by jumping from the 10th floor of a government residential building near Mantralaya in south Mumbai. Lipi, daughter of senior IAS officer Vikas and Radhika Rastogi, took this fatal step around 4 am while the building was quiet, according to police reports.
A security guard discovered Lipi unconscious on a motorbike parked near the building and immediately informed her family. Despite being rushed to GT Hospital, she was declared dead upon arrival. A suicide note found in her room indicated that Lipi did not hold anyone responsible for her decision, as confirmed by the police.
Authorities have registered a case of unnatural death at the Cuffe Parade police station and started an investigation. Initial findings suggest that Lipi was under significant academic stress, which contributed to her distress.
Lipi’s father, Vikas Rastogi, is the principal secretary in Maharashtra’s Higher and Technical Education Department, while her mother, Radhika Rastogi, is also a senior IAS officer in the state government. This tragedy is a painful reminder of a similar incident in 2017, when the 18-year-old son of IAS officers Milind and Manisha Mhaiskar died by suicide in Mumbai.
This incident highlights the immense pressures faced by young students and the devastating impact it can have on their lives.
