Counting Guidelines: The Election Commission has given a far reaching set of rules as Andhra Pradesh plans for the vital undertaking of counting votes planned for June 4.
In a virtual meeting held in New Delhi, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar, along with election commissioners Ganesh Kumar and Dr. Sukhbir Singh, meticulously reviewed the arrangements with chief electoral officers, returning officers, and district election officers from states that conducted elections in five phases.
Emphasizing crowd management at the strong rooms housing the EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines), the CEC stressed the importance of preparedness by ensuring power backup, fire safety equipment, and availability of ambulances for emergency healthcare services.
Furthermore, advance training for personnel involved in EVM vote counting was advised, with a recommendation to equip them with necessary tools such as computers, printers, scanners, and other IT-related appliances.
Regarding the handling of EVMs during the counting process, careful management was underscored, with a directive to mark them as ‘Completion of Counting’ once the process concludes, followed by proper sealing and securing measures. Avoiding haphazard movements of EVMs was cautioned, and the proper conduct of the Electronic Transfer of Postal Ballot Management System was emphasized, including the arrangement of tables and scanners for efficient vote counting.
To speed up the declaration of results, the CEC encouraged Presidents and different authorities to limit delays by setting up show sheets to immediately report results as they become available.
The meeting was gone to by AP Boss Constituent Official Mukesh Kumar Meena, alongside Chiefs from Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim, where gathering races were led in five stages, alongside ROs and DEOs from 543 parliamentary voting public and different authorities.
