largest protest is happening in Canada Prince Edward Island (PEI) where Indian students are much concerned about the new immigration policies. Like many others from India, these students are in a state of confusion owing to changes in programs such as the PNP and PGWP. The PNP which previously had an International Graduate pathway that allowed international students to obtain PR directly has now redesigned its focus towards providing priorities to sectors such as health and education.
This change results in many students employed in the food and retail industries having limited means of PR. Unable to go home, they hit the streets to ask the government for justice and transparency To this, the failure to extend the PGWP has left students whose permits are due for renewal uncertain about their future in the country. India has only reacted mildly, with the Ministry of External Affairs paying lip service to the problem while denying media reports of deportation problems. Despite this the future of protests is not limited to PEI as students struggle to demand their rights and future in Canada.
