BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, recently elected from Himachal Pradesh Mandi, experienced a shocking incident at Chandigarh Airport where she was allegedly slapped by a CISF constable.
Ms. Ranaut was about to board a flight to Delhi when the incident occurred. The CISF constable, Kulwinder Kaur, reportedly slapped her, accusing her of “disrespecting farmers.” This accusation relates to the long farmers’ protests against the now-repealed farm laws and the demand for a legal guarantee of minimum support price in 2020-21.
A mobile video shows Ms. Ranaut being escorted by security officers towards the check-in area, where she is seen talking to some CISF officers. The CISF Commandant has taken note of the incident and is questioning the constable involved. Sources also said that one of Ms. Ranaut’s aides informed the local police.
After landing in Delhi, Ms. Ranaut did not speak to reporters. Earlier in the day, she had posted a photo on Instagram with the caption, “On my way to parliament. Mandi ki sansad.”
During her election campaign, farmers had blocked her convoy in Chandigarh while she was on her way to Mandi. This incident follows her controversial remarks during the farmers’ protests. In February 2021, international pop star Rihanna tweeted about the protests, which led to a sharp response from Ms. Ranaut, calling the protesters “terrorists” and accusing them of trying to divide India.
Ms. Ranaut later deleted her controversial post.
This airport incident has added fuel to the ongoing discussions about Ms. Ranaut’s comments and the farmers’ protests, drawing significant attention and reactions.
