Panchayat Season 3 Review

Rating: 3/5

Panchayat, the beloved series, is back with its third season on Prime Video. After much anticipation, let’s dive in to see if it meets the high expectations.

Story:

In the third season, Prahlad (Faisal Malik) spirals into depression and alcoholism after losing his son. Abhishek Tripathi (Jitendra Kumar) faces a transfer, much to the dismay of Bhushan Dubey (Raghubir Yadav), Prahlad, and Vikas (Chandan Roy). The trio manages to prevent a new Sachiv (Secretary) from taking over, ensuring Abhishek’s return. Meanwhile, a conflict brews between Phulera village and MLA Chandrakishore Singh (Pankaj Jha). The unfolding events form the core of the story.

Positives:

  • Neena Gupta and Faisal Malik deliver standout performances with well-developed characters.
  • Neena Gupta steps up from a proxy president role to a more active role, captivating viewers.
  • Faisal Malik’s portrayal of Prahlad’s grief adds significant emotional depth.
  • Jitendra Kumar impresses once again as Sachiv Ji, with a charming love track.
  • Engaging moments are present throughout the series.
  • Strong performances from the supporting cast, including Raghubir Yadav, Chandan Roy, Pankaj Jha, and Durgesh Kumar.
  • The season ends with a compelling cliffhanger.

Negatives:

  • The focus shifts from light-hearted humor to serious political themes, potentially disappointing fans.
  • The new season concentrates on a single theme, lacking the balance of humor and emotional moments.
  • Pacing is sluggish in many sequences, making the narrative feel slow.
  • Editing could have been tighter to improve the flow.
  • High expectations from previous seasons make this season feel slightly underwhelming.
  • The return of a key character from Season 1 doesn’t bring the expected humor.

Technical Aspects:

  • Anurag Saikia’s music is pleasant and fits well with the series.
  • Amitabha Singh’s cinematography effectively captures the essence of rural India.
  • Production values are solid and contribute to the overall quality.
  • Editing could have been improved to address pacing issues.
  • Deepak Kumar Mishra’s direction is decent but doesn’t reach the heights of previous seasons.
  • The shift towards political themes and drama marks a significant change in the series’ tone.

Verdict:

Overall, Panchayat Season 3 offers decent entertainment with strong performances and emotional depth. The supporting cast gets ample screen time and excels in their roles. However, the shift from humor to a more serious political narrative may not sit well with all fans. The pacing issues and occasional stretched scenes detract from the experience. If you can overlook these flaws, the series is worth watching.
