Indian director Payal Kapadia made history at Cannes Film Festival 2024 through her work All We Imagine as Light which earned the award Grand Prix thus becoming the first Indian movie in three decades to compete in the In Competition section. During the award ceremony on 25th May, Payal Kapadia along with the actresses from the film, Kani Kusruti, Chhaya Kadam and Divya Prabh enjoyed a moment of acceptance speech.
Accomplishing her gratitude to the jury led by Greta Gerwig, Kapadia became astonished to receive that type of award. Thus, stressing on the themes of solidarity and empathy in her speech, Kapadia referred to her film on the developing deep friendship between three different women. Cannes Film Festival for being efficient in the arrangement to facilitate the event.
The joyous victory which Payal Kapadia rightfully deserves, not only places her in the lime light but also marks a new chapter for Indian cinema in the international arena.
