Netflix has revealed its “What We Watched” report for the second half of 2023, showcasing the most viewed titles between July and December. Among the highlights, Kareena Kapoor’s debut OTT film, Jaane Jaan, emerged as the most-watched Indian film on the platform, surpassing Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan.
Top Indian Films on Netflix
Sujoy Ghosh’s crime thriller Jaane Jaan secured the top spot for Indian films on Netflix, amassing 20.2 million views globally and ranking 83rd among the most-watched global titles. The film, featuring Kareena Kapoor, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Vijay Varma, marked Kapoor’s impressive entry into the streaming world. Following Jaane Jaan, Atlee’s action-packed Jawan garnered 16.2 million views and was positioned at 120th globally.
Next in line was Vishal Bhardwaj’s Khufiya, a spy thriller starring Tabu, Ali Fazal, and Wamiqa Gabbi. Despite mixed reviews, it achieved 12.1 million views and ranked 194th globally. Amit Rai’s courtroom drama OMG 2, dealing with sex education in schools and starring Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam, and Akshay Kumar, followed closely with 11.5 million views at the 218th spot. The anthology Lust Stories 2, featuring short films by R Balki, Konkona Sen Sharma, Sujoy Ghosh, and Amit R Sharma, also made the list. It garnered 9.2 million views, placing it at 312th globally. Despite its box office success, the sequel earned 8.2 million views and placed 361st globally.
Most Watched Series
In terms of series, the most watched Netflix India Original globally was Shiv Rawail’s period drama inspired by the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, featuring Kay Kay Menon, R Madhavan, Babil Khan, and Juhi Chawla. The miniseries ranked 139th with 10.6 million views. Sudip Sharma’s crime thriller Kohrra, starring Suvinder Vicky, Barun Sobti, and Harleen Sethi, followed at the 267th spot with 6.4 million views. Guns&Gulaabs, a period comedy show by Raj DK, tied with Kohrra at the same rank and view count.
Lastly, Sameer Saxena’s survival drama Kaala Paani, with Vikas Kumar, Mona Singh, and Ashutosh Gowariker, achieved the 307th spot with 5.8 million views.
