In the context of the Bollywood sports dramas, ‘Mr. & Mrs. Mahi’ can be regarded as the movie that operates in a well-trodden territory. Thus, while the directorial debut of Sharan Sharma can be praised for the palpable romance between the lead pair of Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor, the narrative remains quite traditional in its framework. However, the story is complemented by passion and genuine acting, but, unfortunately, the viewer faces such problems as the monotonous picture’s speed and a simple plot.’Mr & Mrs. Mahi’ is a script that tries to address the issues of ambition and insecurity in marriage but fails to do so in the right manner.
Although the performances justify the ‘Once only’ tag line, the movie somewhat fails in providing an exciting story line. Thus ‘Mr. & Mrs. Mahi’ is a caution that sometimes it is difficult to create an unforgettable sport drama, making people eager for a much deeper story, that would tell the success of a woman shuttler and her husband-coach .
