In Prime Minister Modi upcoming third-term cabinet, Chandrababu Naidu Telugu Desam Party (TDP) will receive four ministerial positions, while Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) (JDU) will secure two, according to insider sources. Expected TDP appointees include Ram Mohan Naidu, Harish Balayogi, and Daggumalla Prasad. For the JDU, Lalan Singh, a Lok Sabha MP from Munger, and Ram Nath Thakur, a Rajya Sabha MP and son of Bharat Ratna recipient Karpoori Thakur, have been proposed.

This decision was finalized at a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting to discuss cabinet roles ahead of the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for tomorrow. The TDP, having won 16 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh, requested four ministerial positions and the role of parliamentary speaker. The JDU, with 12 seats, sought two cabinet berths.

Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar have become crucial figures in forming the government after the BJP secured 240 seats, falling short of the 272 needed for a majority. The NDA, however, won 293 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha, ensuring a significant victory. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to take the oath for a third consecutive term on Sunday.

These coalition negotiations mark a return to pre-2014 dynamics, when alliance partners played a significant role in shaping the government. Speculation about a possible reunion between Nitish Kumar and the opposition INDIA bloc arose when it became clear that the BJP would not secure 272 seats independently. Although some INDIA leaders suggested extending an olive branch to Kumar, sources close to him dismissed this possibility. Nonetheless, they reminded the BJP of Kumar’s departure from the INDIA bloc due to delays in naming him as its Convenor.

The swearing-in ceremony will be attended by leaders from neighboring countries, including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, and Mauritius, highlighting the regional significance of this event.

Stay tuned for further updates on the formation of the new cabinet and the political maneuvers shaping Modi third term.
